Staying Young

July 31, 2011
Floating on Lake Allatoona

As the years pass by, birthdays are not celebrated as they were in my earlier years. See, I don’t really make a big fuss about aging. It is just not an issue for me.

Throughout my 20s, I worked my butt off and barely took any vacation time.  I didn’t do much traveling and although I was enjoying what I was doing, there were definitely a lot of constraints that I tolerated.  It wasn’t until I turned 30 that I felt like I was truly living. The years since that milestone have been some of the best I can remember. By the way, if you missed my birthday wish last week, I did a fun little post about it here. Continue Reading…

Birthday Book Club

Powell's Books

Last Summer, I had this crazy idea that if I asked people to help me go down to the Gulf of Mexico to document the oil spill, people that had the money but not the time to get involved themselves would help out. I tested this theory on my birthday by putting a short video on my blog and Facebook page asking for help. World Domination Summit

Every once in a while I like to do a quick check-in on how things are going in my life, and who the people are that are closest to me day to day. Something made me think about one of my neighbors that I haven’t really spent much time with in a long time, and I paused for moment to reflect on it. I didn’t come up with any particular reason why it’s been so long, although I ruled out distance since he’s only 3 floors down.

I suppose the reality is that I’m spending the majority of my time with people that are either in a similar life stage or are working on similar things out in the world right now. Continue Reading…

Reframing

Switch

Not long ago, a friend was listening to me vent on an issue that was bothering me about my website. We were in launch mode and there was an issue that took a few days to work through. As I mentioned this frustration, he thought it was interesting to hear me obviously irritated by a technology issue when working with technology and consulting clients on digital strategy is my core business.

Just in case you weren’t sure, even us ‘online guys’ run into struggles from time to time. We sometimes run ourselves in circles, and I’ve certainly been known to chase my tail on more than one occasion. Continue Reading…

The Zero Sum Game

July 15, 2011
Zero

Lately, I’ve been a part of several conversations that have let me to ask a question that keeps coming up again and again. Is life a zero sum game?

Unless you’ve been under a rock or offline completely for the last couple of weeks, you’ve no doubt heard (perhaps ad nauseum) about the emergence of Google+. Article after article. Blog post after blog post. Google+ post after Google+ post. Tweet after Tweet. Facebook post after Facebook post. It’s all the same – can Google take on Facebook?

Why are we so obsessed with this? Can’t they both exist simultaneously and let people choose how they participate, or not? Continue Reading…
