5 Tips for Giving Good ‘Share’

April 27, 2011
ShareThis

Have you ever gone to share something online but been disappointed by the default preview content that comes up in social channels such as Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter?  If not, you probably haven’t ever shared content online before.

But seriously, this is an area that almost everyone can improve on, myself included. I recently developed a guide to optimizing web content for social sharing. Here are 5 of the key points:

1. Make the title engaging and include appropriate keywords

Remembrance and The BP Oil Spill

Deepwater Horizon Fire - Photo by US Coast Guard

Last Summer, I left part of my heart on Grand Isle, Louisiana. It’s hard to describe the range of emotions I felt while visiting the Gulf coast in the aftermath of the BP oil spill, and today on the 1 year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon explosion, my heart feels heavy once more.

Nothing I have experienced in my life quite compares to the work that we did on the Gulf last summer. We saw and heard things that most people never had the chance to experience. I have not forgotten, and I am more driven than ever before to continue what we started.

Facebook is not ‘Social Media’

Catchy title, right? Let me explain.

I received an email the other day from a good friend and associate that was passing on an article titled ‘Doubts remain for social ROI‘ and I thought I would dig in a little bit on this topic. First of all, I thought I might find some interesting statistics on how social programs were faring for different industries, brands, etc. Instead, the article singled out activity on Facebook Pages as the source of data to prove the lagging ROI on ‘Social Media.’

A New Era Of Collaboration

April 13, 2011
Collaboration

For the past couple of months, I’ve had opportunity after opportunity come my way to collaborate with people that are doing similar work out in the world as I am.  This brings up an interesting question: in a society that is largely built on competition, can collaboration become the norm?

This topic has come up in several conversations lately, and I though I would explore it a little bit here.  I was on a call earlier with a fellow documentarian that was talking about the great content that she has from coastal Louisiana after the oil spill.  We commented on the fact that there are a plethora of talented individuals and community groups that have been following the stories and producing very engaging content.

But where is the collaboration between these groups?  You have to look pretty hard these days to find stories on the Gulf oil spill, yet many bootstrapped organizations are putting their heart and soul into spreading awareness day after day, our Spirit of the Gulf Coast initiative included. Celebrating and a New Offering

April 7, 2011
Helping Hand

Today is a big day for me and my business as I officially launch my newly designed website/blog. This coincides with some other shifts in my business focus that have also been in the works for several months. Here’s the short version:

I provide digital marketing and social media strategy for businesses and mindful organizations that want to make the world a better place.

I help navigate the waters of the web and social media, and provide relatable, easy-to-follow, and timely strategic advice that allow these businesses and organizations to grow without fretting over their online marketing efforts.

My continued emphasis is on working with clients that have elements of social good, sustainability, and environmental stewardship as core parts of their businesses. I have found that working with individuals and businesses that have this type of sensibility is much more rewarding for me.

To celebrate the new website launching, I wanted to take this a step further and introduce a new initiative. An Hour A Week For Social Good is my way of providing additional support to entrepreneurs and socially conscious companies that are seeking to have a meaningful impact in the world and in the communities in which they operate.
