Kids of the Gulf

166 people from all over the world came together over the last month in a showing of support for Kids of the Gulf and the belief that we can all make a difference if we choose to. There are hardly the words to describe how meaningful this support is to me personally.

Last year when the BP spill first started, I had this idea that people who couldn’t go to the Gulf themselves would be willing to support others who were willing to go and witness the disaster unfold, and help the situation in some way. That idea proved to be valid beyond my wildest dreams. Continue Reading…

Global Support for Kids of the Gulf

October 3, 2011

It has been a little over a week since we launched the fundraising campaign for Kids of the Gulf, and the response from people all over the world has been nothing short of incredible. People on 6 continents are supporting the film in a way that I couldn’t have imagined when we first announced the campaign.

92 people have donated so far, and we’ve had over 33,000 visitors to the fundraising page on IndieGoGo. Today, I wanted to say thank you to everyone that is coming together to make Kids of the Gulf possible. We have an incredible team of people that are rallying around the fundraising campaign and the excitement and enthusiasm that everyone is bringing to the table is truly inspiring. Continue Reading…

Last Spring when the BP Deepwater Horizon rig exploded, like many others I felt an immense sense of loss. Loss of life. Loss of habitat. And to some degree, a loss of faith in humanity.

I recall a friend of mine showing me photos on his iPhone just a few days after the explosion.  He was in town for his birthday and although I knew he worked on an oil rig, I didn’t know just how close to home this hit him.  He was on the rig right next to the Deepwater Horizon, and he was showing me photos of the unfolding disaster he had taken with his phone as the inferno raged a short distance across the water.

My heart ached.  And ached.  And ached some more. Continue Reading…

Thank You, David Gray

David Gray Fox Theatre Atlanta

Tonight, I was fortunate to attend a truly remarkable concert by my favorite singer/songwriter, David Gray.  Generally speaking, I let life unfold without a lot of expectations, but since I’ve seen David perform 3 times before, I couldn’t help but expect to experience something amazing.

He did not disappoint tonight.

In fact, there is no way I could have imagined a concert this incredible.

It was literally THAT good.

Remembrance and The BP Oil Spill

Deepwater Horizon Fire - Photo by US Coast Guard

Last Summer, I left part of my heart on Grand Isle, Louisiana. It’s hard to describe the range of emotions I felt while visiting the Gulf coast in the aftermath of the BP oil spill, and today on the 1 year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon explosion, my heart feels heavy once more.

Nothing I have experienced in my life quite compares to the work that we did on the Gulf last summer. We saw and heard things that most people never had the chance to experience. I have not forgotten, and I am more driven than ever before to continue what we started.
